Room Service??

We had an easy border crossing on Hwy. 97 from Osoyoos, BC into Oroville, WA.  We did have to part with our prize Heirloom tomato, but neither of us felt like eating it after just having breakfast.

This is one Country Lane you don't want to miss!

After picking up Highway 2 going east toward Spokane we started looking for RV parking for the night.  Our choices were few and far between until we pulled into the town of Wilbur and right there, at the intersection of Hwy. 2 and Hwy. 21, was the Country Lane RV Park.  Howard went in to secure a site for the night, $26 with our Good Sam discount, and came back chuckling and handed me a menu.  You won't believe this, he said, but the owners offer home-cooked meals delivered to the rig!  In other words, room service!

This was a first for us in our 18 years of full-time RVing and an opportunity we could not pass up.  I'm thinking to myself, this is definitely blog material.  We walked back to the office, though we could have called, and ordered chicken and dumplings for me, $11 and touted as the Best in the West, and hand-battered chicken fried steak with homemade biscuits and gravy for Howard, $14.  I cannot remember the last time either of us ate this down home comfort food, but we were about to correct that.

Dinner was delivered at 5:30 pm as requested, on nice plates with all the accessories, with an admonishment from Mr. Owner to not wash anything!  Just leave outside on the picnic table and he would be by later to pick up.  And, let me tell you, it was oh so delicious!  I guess I was expecting some store-bought, sodium-laden, microwaveable concoction, but that was not the case.

You can check out the park and menu on the owner's website.  Oh, and when the Mr. came by to pick up the dirty dishes, Howard ran out and ordered two fresh peach cobblers (with ice cream) for dessert.  I give Country Lane RV Park five stars for service, friendliness, and pure entrepreneurship... 

Some seriously good comfort food here!

But definitely leave room for dessert!
